John Reynolds Catch Harpsichord (1942)
Built during World War 2 using mainly recycled furniture, this single manual harpsichord has two sets of strings (one pedal for each) and a lute pedal, which mutes the right hand set of strings.
You can get a very nice full sound out of this when it is recorded either close miked, or ambient miked, or both.
Here is a close-miked recording featuring the Harpsichord, played by Steve Christie, from The Goose and The Crow’s debut album.
