Piano Recording Studio

We have two pianos in our studio - a 1911 Steinway ‘A’ Grand and a 1950 Rogers Upright with ‘mandolin rail’ (tack piano / prepared piano) effect. Both instruments are in brilliant playing condition, and are tuned regularly by local piano tuner David Ashford. If you require a piano tuned before a specific session, there will be a fee of £80 per tuning. We have had concert pianists, jazz pianists and singer-songwriters in the studio since we moved to our Lockerley site, and Steve is never far away from them, recording online sessions using our broadcast standard analog pre-amps and digital converters.

Our pianos are great for all styles of playing, very responsive, and if you need someone to play them, Steve is an expert! If you have a song that needs that extra special touch, or maybe you need a piano part replaying on a decent sounding instrument, you have come to the right place! Our standard recording set up for piano is 6 microphones (3 stereo pairs) - close mic, medium distance, and ambient mics. Our 500 square foot recording room has beautifully warm acoustics with a decay time of around 0.4 seconds, and has a similar warm acoustics to world-famous venues such as Van Gelder studios, and Air Lyndhurst, Studio One. We have been used many times to record our room sound via re-amping, for use as reverb tracks on clients’ productions worldwide.

“This is the nicest piano I think I have ever played on. It’s even better than mine, which is a 1912 Steinway! …The sound you capture is incredible!” - Iwo Zaluska (Polish Concert Pianist)
